1/48 Hasegawa F-86F-40 Sabre

Gallery Article by Patrick Hawkey

Model represents a member of 3529th CCTS based at Williams AFB, AZ, 1962.  They were F-86-40s flying with Misawa style finless drop tanks. They carried one missile rack on the left wing.  I was asked to make the model look used, as the gentleman who graduated from advanced training flying these 86s said they all went to the boneyard six weeks later -- worn out.

I tried to make the day-glo a bit faded and patchy in appearance.  The finish is Testors Model Master Chrome Silver, (no metalizers) tinted with blue, black and gray for the wing center section, under a lot of gloss coat.  Hasegawa kit of course, with a Jaguar interior.

I was so anxious to get this one photoed and on it's way, that I forgot to slip the drop tanks on until I was almost out of film.

Cheers -

Pat
