1/48 Accurate Miniatures A-24 Banshee

Gallery Article by David Rapasi on Feb 7 2011

This model depicts one of seven Douglas A-24 Banshees of the 8th Bombardment Squadron, 3rd Bombardment Group that attacked a Japanese convoy off Buna in mid 1942.

These aircraft were so worn out, had no armor plating, and no self sealing fuel tanks, only one survived the attack. The Japanese shot down five, the sixth was so badly damaged it failed to return.

Regarded by many pilots as too slow, too short ranged, and too poorly armed, the remaining A-24s were relegated to non-combat missions.
