Special Ops Diorama

I was inspired by the movie Blackhawk Down to create a diorama around a Sirkorsky warhorse and decided on the Pavehawk MH-60G and this has been sitting on my desk at home for a wee while, so thought I’d share it with the modelling world!  This is the first model and diorama that I had made for near on 12 years and although relatively basic in finish, I found it thoroughly rewarding!  Scene depicts a Special Forces Pavehawk dropping off three Special Forces personnel behind enemy lines.

The base is made from simple MDF, two layers to create the edge on which to mount the Perspex cover. I then used Plaster of Paris to create the desert undulations and rocky outcrops, then applied clear glue and covered in some, dry fine sand from the local beach and once the glued dried I tipped off the excess. I am quite pleased with the finish!

The kit is as it came out of the box, clearly can do more to add detail and refine features but it’s an enjoyable start to my reinvigorated modelling interest!  The pilots are 1/48 fighter pilots (adequate but not accurate!), whilst the Special Forces characters I ordered from a French Bespoke supplier, enjoyed marking up the camouflage on them and they came with a number of options regarding weapons and general accessories.  I now have a 1/48 Apache Longbow and 1/48 F-14 Tomcat to work on, should be a lot of fun.....both will be in dioramas!  Any comments or recommendations welcome.
