A-1 Skyraider, 516th Fighter Squadron
VNAF
I
built this old Revell 1:40 scale A-1 Skyraider OFB for a dear friend of
mine, modified some areas as I went along…..because I can’t help it.
It’s such a beautiful kit despite it is about 40 years old and has lots
of moving bits. The model was based on a special paint scheme of the 83rd
“Than-Phong” (Kamikaze) SOG being transferred to the Flying Tiger 516th
Fighter Squadron VNAF after this squadron was disbanded.

The
model is painted with Gunze paint and Master Model but I have to match the
colors hoping to get as close as possible to some reference photos because I think
there isn’t a right color code for the 83rd SOG paint scheme.
Most of the markings were painted on except for the VNAF insignias and
tail codes, the weathering was used with Pro Modelling weathering wash,
the oil stains were hand painted with oil colors.
Finally,
the kit is not as accurate as the real thing, but it’s quite a nice kit
to build and it has some nice moulding details such subtle panel lines and
rivets, I enjoyed it and I hope you enjoy viewing the photos.
FYI,
the model photos were taken on the roof of my car with a piece of MDF
board
J
Enjoy the photos.
