I was
asked by a buddy several months ago to build a couple of special models.
Richard's grandfather was a WWII pilot who flew Lancasters and Halifaxes during
and after the war. Sadly he lost his life in a Lanc crash in 1952. These planes
are dedicated to the memory of Kenneth Lussier DFC.

The MkII
is done as a 408 Sqn bird that was prominent in Lussier's log book. No pics are
available of LQ-T as it didn't last long. During an OP the crew were forced to
bail out over France, and FO Lussier made it out thanks to the Maquis. I used
the Airfix kit and decals, altered to match the T and tail number. Bombs came
from the Hasegawa kit I had for the Mk10 featured in this article.
The Mk10 is done to
the best of my research to represent the No 1 Air Navigation School Lanc that
Lussier was killed in. It's a Hasegawa kit, built pretty much OOB with decals
from various sources. Again there were no pics of the actual airplane to go by,
so I did what I could. the RCAF markings books by Patrick Martin were a big
help.
The writeup on the
crash stated that the student pilot bounced the aircraft and pulled into a sharp
climb, causing it to stall and crash on the infield at Summerside, PEI. The crew
in the front were killed yet there were some survivors in the rear of the
aircraft.
