This is the Academy 1-48 SU-27 Flanker. One of the first, if not the first Flanker kit, of the Russian super-fighter. Although there are several newer Flanker models out, this one isn't bad at all! Fit is good, and the model was fun to build.

There is a company by the name of Linden Hill that specializes in Soviet and Russian subjects, and going through their web site, I discovered that they have a line of decals for Russian and Soviet subjects - I picked up several sets and the markings on the model are from a Russian Northern based Flanker.

Linden Hill also have introduced me to a Russian company called Akan. They make an extensive line of colors for Russian aircraft. I couldn't resist trying them, as these are the Russian equivalent of FS color standards! So these are the actual Flanker colors used on this aircraft. Akan colors went on smoothly, airbrushed well, and were easy to clean up. I especially liked the burned metal that closely simulates the area around the Flanker's engines!

Overall, this aircraft makes a BIG model, and is interesting to see a colorful aircraft sitting next to the mono-color grays of American and NATO aircraft, dwarfing some of them! It was a fun build, and I am already working on an SU-33 and an SU-35!
