McDonnell Douglas F-4J VX-4 Vandy One

This model is an Hasegawa 1/72 F-4J Phantom II limited edition box 01926. I decided to show this bird with an attractive US NAVY pattern full gloss black from a famous unit named VX-4. This special scheme represents the jet nicknamed VANDY ONE block 29 serial number 153783 in 1973 at Point Mugu NAS California. For the end of its career it was used by RAF from 1984 to 1991. This unit was specialized in tests of new missiles, jammers and electronic protection and radar, it was disbanded in 1994 and replaced by VX-9. I used the decal sheet from the box, decals are accurate and easy to fit (a lot of markings servitude). I followed HASEGAWA instructions regarding colors full Humbrol gloss black 21 except area in front of canopy flat black Humbrol 33 to avoid sun reflection for the pilot. I used a combination of Gunze metal color (stainless, chrome..) for exhausts and rear exhaust (protection areas). I show the plane with opened canopies to see cockpit interior and I added a centerline tank and empty armament pylons. All landing gear and interior traps are white Gunze H316.

I like the decoration with the Playboy bunny logo on tail it is sexy as the mag. F-14A&D Tomcat used the same logo in VX-4 Evaluators and after VX-9 Vampires until a NAVY admiral judged this decoration inappropriate for the branch honour!

Black bunnies for ever!
