1/48 Tamiya Fw-190 D-11

JV 44 Squadron Part 2

by Ján Hitka

--------------------

Hello everybody.

I would like to show you the second part of my JV 44 squadron.

This group was built in the April 1944 in München- Reim, which is situated in the southeast Germany. Pilots flew around the air base, didn’t fly for Hitler, but only for "Vaterland" and for general Galland. They protected starting/ landing of Me-262 jet fighters, because they were the most vulnerable during these maneuvers.

The planes JV 44 had nice colorful camouflage on the lower wings, which was in red color with white stripes. This camouflage was very important, because in the anti aircraft artillery was teen-age boys, who were shooting at all planes… If we add the allied attack with P-51 Mustang, P-47 Thunderbolt, Hawker Typhoon and Tempest, the pilots Luftwaffe had only a little chance to survive. Those few men, who survived, were the luckiest.

However, on the other hand, at present nowadays it’s good, that the allied airforce had absolute air superiority.

This kit is different. It was produced 20 years ago and it is obvious. I needed too many putty and I had to rebuild the covers of Mk-108 canon, the cover of engine and a few parts in the interior.

But I think the result looks good.

Now I am building up next Fw-190 D-11 (<61 or <81) and Me- 262. Then I will have my own JV 44 complete. My neighbour will build up last part JV 44- red 3 and red 13 Fws- 190.
