1/48 Hasegawa P47-D Thunderbolt

This article is a tribute to ARC's contributors and especially to Steve Bamford for providing us with the number one aircraft modelling site!  Thank you!  This is my third model, finished almost 2 years ago, and the first one after reading Tools 'n' Tips section on ARC.  It's the 1/48 Hasegawa P47D built OOB with kit decals and brush painted with AeroMaster olive drab and Gunze neutral gray.
The goal was to make a clean build and to try many new techniques for me :

  • filling without sanding

  • guns made of needles and wires for hydraulic lines

  • klir (clear) coat before decals

  • oil wash

  • chipped paint

After brushing the flat coat, I've noticed that the white ring on the engine cowling is not wide enough ... too late!  Actually, I don't like to do things twice and keeping the mistakes is a good way to improve my skills!

Below is a pic of my workbench made in a shoe chest.  It contains all my tools and products, I can put the little drawers on my table in 30 seconds to be ready to glue!  The other pic shows different supports made of computers wrapping and big electrical wire, very useful for painting after gluing the tips in gear bay with blue-tac.
Happy modelling.

Patrick
