1/72 Renform

unnamed Junkers jet bomber

This model was carved from Renfoam and the profile was taken from Luft46.com. It was built for a group build on another site. Items bought for this were the canopy (Skyraider from Squadron) and main tires (Do.17 from True Details). The rest was made from brass/aluminum tubing and sheet, foam, wood dowels, and plastic sheet. All parts were made separately with paper templates, then pinned together with 1/16" wooden dowels. I used Tamiya paints throughout. Images 3, 4 and 5 show different stages during assembly.

The build went smoothly and with no problems. The Renfoam is dense but carves easily and made this much easier to do! The camouflage was copied from the artwork of Kyle Scott on the Luft '46 website. It looks like a winter ambush scheme, but goes well with this jet bomber. It also looks like a cross between an A-10 "Warthog" and Su-25 "Frogfoot." The bombs were made of 1/8" brass tubing, 3/16" wooden dowels and thin brass sheet for the fins.

The base is MDF board with 320 grit w/d paper for the tarmac. I used cheap brown acrylic paint and baking soda to simulate snow. I then used brown/tan pastels to dirty up the runway, and brushed on Tamiya clear to simulate ice buildup. I am happy with the way this one came out and am planning to build more Luft '46 planes in the near future.
