1/48 Eduard Nieuport 11

Gallery Article by Alain Carrette

Here is my Nieuport 11 representing the craft flown by Edmond Thieffry, Belgian ace of WW1.

Even if the overall official kills of the Belgian Aviation Militaire was very small in comparison of French, British, Germans, Italians and Americans, few pilots did become aces, with five confirmed kills. A lot of claims were never confirmed, and in some instances, some pilots did not even bother to pursue the matter.

This Nieuport 11, N 3 ( registration from Belgian army) entered service in 1917, and was decorated with a bright red comet, shortly to become the emblem of the 2nd squadron, still in use to this day.

The kit went together beautifully, this was the non profi-pack version, but some parts left over of other builds found their way to this model. Roundels are painted, and so is the rudder, the comet is a home made decals and feathered paint, paint is a mix of Floquil, Tamyia and Alclad.

The pilot figure is from copper state, painted with oil.

I enjoyed building this tiny model, and have more in my stash.
