1/48 Tamiya Me109 E3

--------------------

This is my most recent early Me109 E3. It represents "Red 1" flown by Oblt. Gerd Framm commander of II./JG27, Krefeld airfield in early spring 1940. All aircraft of II/JG27 initially had the names of old German colonies on their engine cover.   Gerd Framm survived the war with a tally of 10 aircraft shot down.

The inspiration & decals for this model came from the Kagero publication "JG27 Volume I". However close inspection of the photo of the actual aircraft showed differences to the profile in the book. As I see it from the photo the aircraft had a white rudder, red spinner and black exhaust shroud, so that is how I finished my model. I love these Kagero publications as the profiles & decals are very inspiring.

Painting was completed using Testors Model Master Enamels RLM 71 RLM02 RLM65 with a hard demarcation to the RLM65 and a slightly softer demarcation between the RLM71 & RLM02. Weathering then consisted of the usual oil washes over a gloss acrylic coat followed by pastel chalk and testors dullcote. The photo of the real aircraft shows a relatively clean, well maintained machine, so again that is how I aimed to finish mine. The only additions from an out of the box build were the Eduard seat harness and the antenna wires from ez line. I hope that you enjoy the finished product.
