BAC Eagle GR1

An Airfix TSR-2 as it should have been

by Mark Chadbourne

--------------------

This is the Airfix TSR-2 depicted as an Eagle GR1 of 617 Sqn during 1979. Closing the undercarriage doors wasn't the easiest thing to do and a lot of filling and sanding was required to get them flush. The decals came from the Xtradecal sheet for the TSR-2, with all the stenciling coming from various spare sheets that I have around.

The centerline and underwing tanks are from SAM publications and are based on official plans drawn up for the TSR-2. The same manufacturer also made the Bluewater missiles and in-flight refueling probe.

I painted the kit with Humbrol enamels throughout and ran a thin wash of Airfix  acrylics (those tiny little pots that they put in various kits over the years DO come in useful for something afterall!!), heavily thinned with washing up liquid and water.

To complete the build I added lights above and below the fuselage and various antennas to give it a feel of an "in service" machine
