  Battle of Britain Day 2007

This is my 1/48 Tamiya Spitfire Mk.1b finished with the markings of No 92 Sqdn. during the summer of 1941.  One of the original cannon armed Spitfire Mk.I's issued to No 19 Sqdn during 1940, R6923 /QJ-S  was bought up to Mk V standard and issued 92 Sqdn early in 1941.* (Note the early style spinner and exhaust).

The base model is 1/48 Tamiya Spitfire Mk Vb.  The construction started  with the painting of cockpit components to RAF interior green.  The cockpit is modified with the following parts.

  • Eduard PE instrument panel

  • Eduard PE  RAF seat belts.

  • Ultracast Spitfire resin seat # 48149

  • Cutting Edge  GM2 gunsight # 48157

The additional replacements parts to convert it from  Mk.Vb  to Mk.Ib are;

  • Ultracast #48112  De Havilland 3 blade propeller and spinner

  • Ultracast  #61032 Spitfire Mk1 exhaust

  • The elevators from Ultracast # 61032 Spitfire Mk1 Control surfaces set.

The painting was done with Gunze Sangyo acrylics.  Upper surfaces are painted to RAF dark green / dark earth and the underside to the RAF sky duck green.

The decals are from Aeromaster (# 48682).  Finally after oil paint washing I used Gunze H20 for the matt coat finish.

Happy Modelling
