This aircraft was
flown by Staffelkaptain Klaus Bretschneider, an ace with 31 victories. The Red 1
of 5./JG300 carried the standard grey camouflage scheme, 74/75/76, with some
brownish green mottling. The number, tail band, and lower cowling were red.

The R8 had additional armor
plate on the fuselage and extra armor plate glass on the forward canopy.
The cowl mounted MG 131s were removed and the openings faired over.
On the cockpit side
armor was the name Rauhbautz VII (tough guy).
