Review by Steve Bamford on Aug 13 2009

This new decal sheet from MAW Decals includes markings for 7 different 1/48 USMC A-4 Skyhawks.

Special thanks goes to John Bibay, Max Tollens and Dave Roof for their help on this decal sheet.

The 7 aircraft include a wide selection of paint schemes worn by USMC Scooters from 1970 to 1989.  These are all 2 seater Skyhawks.

  • TA-4F Skyhawk, H&MS-11 Playboys in May of 1970.  Gray/white scheme with yellow and red stripes and black anti-glare panel.

  • TA-4F Skyhawk, H&MS-12 Outlaws in July of 1977.  Gray/white scheme with red and white accents and black anti-glare panel.

  • TA-4F Skyhawk, H&MS-13 Outlaws in the late 1970's.  Tan/Brown/Green camo and black anti-glare panel plus you get alternate markings for the CO.

  • TA-4F Skyhawk, H&MS-15 Angels in May of 1971.  Gray/white scheme with blue stripes with white stars and black anti-glare panel.

  • TA-4F Skyhawk, H&MS-31 Aggressors in April of 1989.  3 tone gray camo with red star on tail for aggressor markings.

  • TA-4F Skyhawk, H&MS-32 Bandits in August of 1971.  Gray/white scheme with blue and white stripes and black anti-glare panel.

  • TA-4F Skyhawk, H&MS-42 Bandits in October of 1975.  White with green and yellow stripes and black anti-glare panel.

The 8 pages of instructions are included on a CD as high resolution images that include 4 color views of each aircraft.  The decals are beautifully printed on 1 very large decal sheet.

The USMC has flown TA-4F Skyhawks with a good  variety of paint and camo schemes and this decal sheet captures some of the more interesting schemes worn by the TA-4F Skyhawk of the USMC.
