Revell continue their range of 1/72 scale “Luftwaffe ‘46” aircraft with this heavily armed fighter/destroyer intended to be developed from the Me 262. One look at the excellent box art and the resemblance is easy to see with the same wings, empennage and engines of the 262 mated to a fattened fuselage heavily arrayed with machine guns and cannon. The fantasy of a prolonged European war continues with a flight of B-29’s in the background, one having fallen victim perhaps to the twin 30mm K103Z cannon operated by the rear facing gunner. It’s a great looking package.

The box contains four sprues of cleanly moulded parts with a level of detail adequate for this scale and up to contemporary standards. The cockpit is reasonably well equipped and includes clear plastic parts for optics for the pilot and also the gunner. The canopy on this design is generously proportioned so further detailing would not be completely lost to viewers. Weaponry and their mountings take up most of the remaining parts (that you will not have already seen on a 262 kit). These are nicely realised and they are what give this otherwise benign airframe its threatening character.

The instructions are clear enough and provide markings for fictional aircraft of JG400 and JG7 some time in 1945 with two plausible camouflage suggestions. The decal sheet looks perfectly good and contains some attractive and colourful little insignia.

Overall a very sound and simple kit recommended to enthusiasts of the “what if” genre.
