The
Avon Sabre was the 1st interceptor of Royal Malaysian Air Force as
given as a gift under the five power defense agreement with the Australian
Government among others. These Sabres were ex-RAAF machines and were inducted to
their new home at Butterworth Malaysia flying with the RMAF 11 Squadron.
At
the end of their service with RMAF, some of the Sabres went to Indonesian and
some ended in static and guard duties around the country. Later the squadron was
equipped with F-5E’s and today the Squadron is operating the
brand new SU-30MKMs.

A
mate was willing to trade his Kinetic Sabre it have the hard wing as similar to
the Avon Sabre and I thought I will do the trade and try to make a Avon Sabre.
Work
started with the cockpit and seat modification took place by making the seat
more full including the various hoses and harness. Fuselage started with cutting
the various holes and modifying the front end for the single
Aden
cannon, the intake was slightly enlarged but not fully to represent the Avon
Sabre.
The
topside also had some work done on the dorsal intake. This was the hardest
part to get done. Following which assembly took place, and primed and sanded
with surfacer.
A
mate of mine who is a professional graphic designer did the art work for me.
Thanks Sonny Jumpo and I got it printed and Weathered and painted in O.D and
underside blue
Overall
it is not 100% perfect but ok as it looks like a CAC Avon to me. I might attempt
one more with lessoned learned on this one. A point to note all parts for the
conversion were obtained from the spare box and modeling tools, such as cut ear
buds for the side intakes and such.
