Cleveland National
Air Races 1949
I started scale
modelling when I was 12, with a Heller 1/48 Vought Corsair that my uncle gave
me. I remember that paints and glue were included in this kit J. I did a lot of
scale modelling when I was a teen but I suddenly stopped, I was more concerned
by girls at that time J. Now I am back 15 years later. I just had this big urge
to build kits again.
So here I am again
starting with a Spitfire Mk. XIVe, Academy 1/48.

This model
represents a Canadian civil Spitfire, registered CF-GMZ, that placed third
during the Cleveland National Air Races of 1949 (Tinnerman Trophy Race)
with a speed of 578.64 Km/H (359.56 mph). Check this link for more info: http://www.airrace.com/1949%20NAR%20.htm
The kit was built out of the
box. I just filled the cannon ports and cartridge ejection holes. I guess I
could also have removed the cannon bulges on the wings too but I just could not
find any picture of the real thing to be sure.
I painted this baby with Tamiya
silver mica (TS-76) for fuselage and wings; royal blue (X-3) for canopy and
spinner.
