India Republic Day

Growing up away from Air Force stations, yet close to a Navy base in the tiny Indian state of Goa, the Kamov helos are a regular sight patrolling the blue skies over the coconut trees. What better subject for my second Indian forces bird than the Kamov-28 of the Indian Navy!

I managed to complete this build as the clock was ticking out on 2014. As the kit I had in the stash was not the same version as the one used by the Indian Navy, I scratch built the starboard window, the fairings the serial numbers are painted on, and a few other antennae, fuel and hydraulic lines. I did a usual riveting pass on the model for added surface detail.

The rotor blades were a tad too thick for the scale, so a little carving away of the excess had the complimentary side-effect of the rotor droop. I used automotive lacquer paints for the base coat, with oils for weathering. Decals and stencils from Begemot.

Thanks for watching! "Jai Hind!"
