1/48 Italeri P-40M

This is my 1/48 scale P-40M model from Italeri. Apart from a few minor sink marks on the exterior I found this old kit still very good in detail compared to 21st century standards. Unfortunately the inner wheel wall is missing on the kit and the wheel well detail on the ceiling is missing on places so I decided to scratch build the whole interior there. In order to further detail the kit, I applied full rivet detail based on real photos of restored planes found on the Net.

A friend of mine gave me an old Eduard PE, and used the copper seat from it otherwise I used the original cockpit parts and PKTinyland seatbelts there. On the wings, I replaced the guns with hypo needles and the main struts received the brake lines from copper wire. The bigger main gear doors had wrong lightening holes on them on the original parts, so I scratch build the complete doors from thin sheet aluminium.

I painted the model with Alclad aluminium, and weathered the panel lines with my usual mix of Tamiya black and brown. I painted the exhaust stains in light color, Tamiya buff+brown. For markings, I decided to use Italeri's decals for this attractive Brazilian plane. I'm not sure if "black 4" was really a M or N version, but this time I decided to follow the kit's instructions but this might be wrong...

More photos of this model and my other works are available up on my homepage, http://www.peterkormos.tk .
