I chose
the markings for the famous B-26 "Flak Bait". Flak Bait holds the record within the United States Army Air Forces for the number of bombing missions survived during World War II.
This bomber survived 202 missions over Germany and had over 1000 holes in it
during it's combat service. Flak
Bait return from 2 missions on one engine, another mission it returned with an
engine on fire. It lost it's electrical system once and it hydraulic
system twice.
Flak
Bait returned to the United States in December 1946. The aircraft is currently undergoing preservation and conservation at the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum.
