After a lot of hair pulling and
beating my head against a wall I've finally finished this big bird. I
must say that this build has been very challenging. I had
originally planned on build the Tamiya kit and this kit at the same
time, but the Revell kit turned out to be a bit more involved. I
used the Tamiya kit for a detail reference and added the proper surface detail
to the the Revell kit then focused on finishing the Tamiya kit.
I spent a number of hours
looking over the Revell kit and reference material for the F-15 and
found that the only way to build the Revell kit correctly was as the F-15B-4
Strike Eagle Prototype aircraft #71-0291. F-15B-4-MC was the second
of two F-15B prototypes that was used by the McDonnell Douglas company
for demonstration of a proposed dual role fighter with FAST Pack
conformal fuel tanks and LANTIRN pod. This aircraft became the
development aircraft for F-15E Strike Eagle.

The Tamiya kit lent a number of
spare parts toward building this kit. The seats, MERs and MK20s all came
from the Tamiya kit.
For the burner cans I used resin
cans from Cutting Edge Modelworks. And for the canopy I used a photo
etch set from Model Technologies and done a little scratch building.
The paint scheme for this
aircraft is an overall "European 1" camouflage.
The load out is 22 MK20 Rockeye
Cluster Bombs carried on the wing, CFT and centerline pylons and 4 Aim 9Ls
carried on the wings.
