1/48 Tamiya Repubic  P-47 D

Thunderbolt Razorback “ZOMBIE”

by Giuseppe Penna

--------------------

In my opinion, it is currently the best kit that reproduces the P-47 Thunderbolt in 1/48 scale – Absolutely – Congratulations Tamiya.

The only negative detail : the wheels of the undercarriage, are of thin section, but is a mistake that can easily be put right.

Painting
I have used the Alclad metalizer for the overall baremetal finish.  For the D DAY stripes I have used the airbrush.

Decals

I found the AeroMaster sheet 48-077 – Stripes & Checkers.  Please, use great care when apply
ing the Check pattern decals on the cowling engine.

Historic News

Personally I have wanted to represent this aircraft to remember the 60th anniversary of the D DAY, the aircraft of the Lt. T.Bayley of 356th FG 361st FS 8th AF based at Martlesham, Norfolk (England) – Another “Zombie” belonged to an unknown pilot  with the 83rd FS 78FG based at Duxford (England – June 1944 See “P.47 in Action” Squadron Signal.

Conclusion
Due to the high quality of this kit, I never use resin parts and photo etch.  On the contrary, for the canopy panels, I used masks (EZ MASK Canada) for a good job on the canopy panels and the undercarriage wheels.

Photography
I took my photos in open air.

I've also included a photo of what I used as a background....a mountain in Sanremo (Italy)
