This picture shows
the result of the challenge we faced when we decided to enter Euro Scale
Modelling, the Dutch IPMS Nationals, with a special theme in 2005: To re-create
the entire Schiphol Airport Amsterdam as it was during the 50's and 60's.
Here you see a
picture of the actual airport around the time we modelled and some of the
detail shots that were taken. The size is about 14' x 9'. It took three of
us 6 months to build the entire setting from scratch using old
photographic references, lots of plastic card, wood and cardboard.
Two more guys brought the ground equipment and some 150 painted people to
populate the tarmac and some of the buildings. Three more members of the
Dutch airliner SIG took care of building the appropriate planes that stock
the scene. We took first prize in the group display catagory. Visit www.sigairliners.nl
for more information. |
