1/48 Hasegawa Hawker Typhoon Mk1b

This kit was built basically out of the box with the exception of Eduard Harnesses and Aeromaster decals. The fit of parts was extremely good with no problems encountered. The kit decals were quite bland and rather thick, so I opted to replace these with Aeromaster decal sheet No 48-436 'Storms in the Sky Pt. X'. The aircraft I chose was from No181 Sqn during Exercise Spartan, which had the distinctive white bands either side of the nose.

Painting was carried out using a mixture of Aeromaster Acrylics and Poly S Acrylics. These being the standard camouflage of Medium Sea Grey on the undersides and Ocean Grey and Dark Green on the upper surfaces. A mixture of Tamiya masking tape and 'Blue Tack' was used to demarcate the upper camouflage which results in a nice slight feathered edge. The entire model was then sprayed in Johnsons Klear in preparation for the decals.

The decals went on without any problems with the aid of a little Micro Set and Sol. To complete the finish a coat of Hannants Xtracrylix Flat was sprayed on to return the matt finish. I decided not to weather the aircraft as I wanted to keep the lovely lines of the aircraft in mint condition. To finish all the ancillary items were attached using cyano glue. Overall an enjoyable project and my first to be sent into ARC. Hope everyone likes it.
