This is one of my
favorite builds, and it is one that everyone, no matter what your background in
modeling, and especially non-modelers,
can easily relate to. It started out life as the very nice Revell 1/24 '50 Chevy
truck. A great kit, good fit, nice detail. I wanted to learn to weather a
bit on this one so I ground out the fenders from the backside, applied baking
soda over liquid glue to the rusted-through areas and painted them dark brown
before painting the rest of the truck. Rubber cement is my mask for these
flaked-off patches, and the green started life as FS 34079 before
repetitive lightening steps using white. I used Rustall on the outside and
applied a heavy flat coat before dusting with pastels. The interior was beaten
up as well, and the seat deformed before using masking tape to make the tattered
cloth on the seat.

The fishing pole is
scratchbuilt, the tackle box and bucket are 1/35 armor items. Engine and
brake lines are wired and the vent door was cut open. By the way, the name was
decided upon by the judges at the first contest it went to. It was an immediate
success and it received a lot of comments, especially from those who's "Dad
had one just like it!"
I hope everyone has
a safe and prolific modeling year in 2007!
