1/48 Tamiya P-51B Mustang

Shangri-la

This Tamiya kit is very beautiful quality and well finished.  The parts are very elegantly engraved, with a good level of detail, and it gives the possibility to build two P-51bs.  One with the bare metal finish and one in Olive Green for the more famous Shangri-la.  This model doesn't need almost any filler because the joints are so perfect that the filler it becomes superfluous.

I built the plane called Shangri-la flown by Capt. D. Gentile, of the 336th FS, 4th FGs.  I have not put any armament under the wings and on the contrary I went with two 108 gallons fuel tanks.  For the painting I used only model-master paints , more particularly the olive drab, the red, the white, the neutral grey and the aluminium.  I painted the upper surfaces with olive drab and of neutral grey on the lower surfaces.  Then I clear coated both the colors with some drops of white color, and I have crossed again every panel line of the wings and the fuselage.  Subsequently I painted the 2 stripes on the wings with white color and the red band in the interior part of the fuselage.  After having given two coats of gloss clear coat, I applied the decals with the Mr MARK from GUNZE SANGYO.

Once dry, I applied another coat of gloss clear coat and one of dull coat.  The last phase concerns the aging of the model and the relative smoke stains, both of the exhausts of the motor and of the machine guns.

I would suggest to model to anyone looking for an enjoyable build...this kits requires very little frrot to build.

Good fun boys!
