Needing
a faster delivery system than propeller driven aircraft would give him,
Santa was one of the very first users of the cargo variant of the famous
DeHavilland Comet airliner. Specially strengthened floors, an aerial drop
system and strategically placed airfields allowed Santa a fast, efficient
Xmas that year, and for several years afterwards. In fact, the Comet
(named after one of Santas' favourite reindeer) was used in support roles
well into the 1980s, when noise abatement policies led to its' withdrawal.
The kit is the ancient Airfix Comet 4, slightly
chopped and modified, with a snazzy red paint scheme and a gold "go
fast" stripe. Decals were home made on my inkjet printer.
