This is the excellent Revell 1/72 GR1 converted to a GR4A. The conversion to GR4
is easy enough; all you need to do is add the FLIR fairing (I made mine a scrap
resin block and some filler). To get it to GR4A standard I used the Airwaves
GR1A conversion adding the line scan cameras and filled in both the gun
fairings. I added some Hasegawa 2250 Ltr tanks and the Sky Shadow pod from the
spares box as these look better than the kit offerings, the TIALD pod was from
the Airfix
NATO weapons set. Paveways were from the kit. Markings were from a Model Decal
set with crew figures from PJ
productions of
Belgium. Other than these additions the kit built up nicely from the box. I must admit
I do like this kit; it looks and feels the part.
The build was a commission, 1 of 3 for one of my work mates (just a Harrier GR9
and Nimrod to go!!) before he emigrates and joins the RAAF. The picture is taken
from Google earth and is RAF Marham where 2 Sqn operate the Tornado GR4, and the
addition of the name bade adds the personal element.
