The
basis for this project is Italeri 1/48 Gripen. I used some aftermarket goodies,
namely CMK resin sets and Eduard photo etched sets.
This
project was not supposed to be out-of-the-box build. It was my intention to
build a model that could score some points at modeling contests, so the ‘just
kit+aftermarket goodies’ philosophy was not an option. I had to improve
the model significantly to impress my fellow modelers.

Apart
from replacing the undercarriage bays and cockpit with resin and photoetched
aftermarket sets, I did add some additional detail and corrected inaccuracies
based on available references.
I
decided to build my model to depict an aircraft being serviced on the airbase. Based
on photos available, I cut off rear section to add additional detailing around
the engine (copper wires additional resin parts etc.,).
The
only available camouflage scheme of Gripens serving with the Czech air force is
‘Low Visibility’ scheme. I used Model Masters colours. The Czech low vis
roundels come from CMK ‘Best of ‘kit decal sheet.
