Hello again everyone. Here's a
Hasegawa P-47 that I finished a few weeks ago. I built the Col. Francis
Gabreski version. This kit was a real pleasure to build. The fit and
detail are superb and goes together very quick. Most of the time was spent
on painting and weathering. Built mostly OOB with the addition of Eduard
photo-etch seat belts and some wire for the brake lines and plug wires.

Probably the only tricky part
was assembling the cowling. If you take your time and make some dry
runs you shouldn't have any problems. The only other problem is
there is only a few reference photos of the Gabreski bird. There is
no photos of the starboard side of the aircraft that I found. So I
dug up what few photos that I had and viewed what other modelers have done
to come up with a fairly close representation of his aircraft.
The cockpit is nicely detailed and I
chose to paint the instrument panel instead of using the decal supplied in the
kit. The cockpit is Interior Green. I painted the underside
Camoflage Grey. Topside was a base coat of LT Sea Grey with a few drops of
dark grey to get the shade close to my references. The next color was Dark
Green to get the pattern I wanted. After doing this, the color didn't look
quite right so I finally found RAF DK Green and went back over my original
pattern which looked more like the correct color. I applied the red
last. Then it was onto the standard clear coat of future, decals,
weathering and wash. All paints were MM except for the red which was
Tamiya.
This was such an enjoyable build.
I highly recommend this kit if you plan on building a 1/32 P-47. Again,
thanks to everyone for contributing to this great site.
