#48017  1/48 scale Decal Sheet

#72047  1/72 scale Decal sheet

Review by Steve Bamford

The F-84, the USAF's first post-war fighter, made its initial flight on February 26, 1946. It began rolling off the production lines in June 1947, and by the time production ceased in 1953, approximately 4,450 "straight-wing" F-84s had been built. In addition to being used by the USAF, many were supplied to allied nations participating in the Mutual Security Program. During its service life, the F-84 became the first USAF jet fighter able to carry a tactical atomic weapon.

The third plane is an RF-84G Thunderjet, with the 88th Air Regiment in the Yugoslav Air Force out of Batajnica AB in 1962.  The paint scheme on this aircraft is a camo pattern of overall Dark Sea Grey FS 26173 with dark Green FS 24079 splotches on top and PRU Blue FS 25189 on the underside.  The wing tip tanks have the same paint scheme as the fuselage.  Identification numbers on the side of the forward fuselage are "571".  There is red white and blue stripes with a red star on the vertical tail.

The fourth plane is an F-84G Thunderjet, with the Imperial Iranian Air Force out of Mehrabad AFB in 1960.  The paint scheme on this aircraft is overall Polish Aluminium on top and Matt Aluminium on the underside.  The wing tip tanks are Polish Aluminium.  Identification letters on the side of the forward fuselage read "I.I. Air Force".  There is a Iranian flag on the vertical tail.  There is an Olive Drab FS 34087 forward and behind the canopy on the top side of the fuselage.

An interesting sheet with good variety of countries and paint schemes.  The decals are beautifully printed.  There is also a paper insert containing instructions and black and white drawings about different types of wing tip tank reconnaissance cameras.  The decals are thin and beautifully printed.

A very nice sheet and highly recommended for anyone wanting to build a non-US F-84G.
