This new resin cockpit set from Cutting
Edge Modelworks provides the updated forward cowling, corrected ALQ-144
mount, APR-39/V-2 RWR antennas, and more to update and upgrade the MRC OH-58D to
Bosnian War and later configuration.
This set provides a a completely
new doghouse engine cowling, with the ducted air inlets for the engine cooling
air. It has been a standard fit on all Kiowa Warriors since the beginning
of the Bosnian War and provides improved airflow during attack with the 2.75
rockets using the Mk. 66 rocket motors. This set also includes an accurate
ALQ-144 mount, the podium on top of the tail boom immediately behind the engine
exhaust. this part has been completely reshaped and stiffeners added,
along with the mounts for attaching the ALQ-144. This set provided parts
so you can choose whether or not to mount the actual ALQ-144. The set also
includes the APR-39/V-2 Radar Warning Receiver antennas, the Engine Barriers
Filters mounted above the engine compartment and used during Operation Iraqi
Freedom, the GPS antenna on the tail boom and other small parts.
This set will require some
cutting of the kit fuselage to install the doghouse engine cowling part in this
set.
Resin casting
is of a very high quality and all detail is very well done. The
delicate parts and packaged in cardboard protectors to keep them from
getting broken.
The 2 pages of instruction sheets
include plenty of photos and detailed text explaining the conversion
installation process. Go slow....read the instruction carefully and you'll
do just fine. This set is rated for experienced modellers or at least
modellers willing to go slow and work patiently. I don't see any
complications in using this set.....it looks pretty straight forward.
If you're building the
big 1/35 MRC Kiowa Warrior kit as a late version,
then this resin set from Cutting Edge
Modelworks will save you much work.
I would like to
thank Cutting Edge
Modelworks for providing me with this review sample.
