Overview
The Patriot 105 is a very popular airbrush made by badger that come out of the box with a fine “F 0.5mm” needle that allows modelers to paint precision and surface general coverage. It is a gravity feed airbrush that is easy to maintain and an excellent bang for the buck. For most of the paint job this is just what your need.

Here comes the new conversion set from Badger. The Super fine set. This really kicks up the level of this airbrush at 0.3mm this setup allows you to make very very fine lines with limited to no over spray. For modelers many applications come to mind, from pre-shading to free hand camouflage this is a real life saver.

In the Box
What you get with this kit is basically a new needle, a spay regulator and a new tip.(view picture #1)

Comparing it with the “F 0.5mm” you can see its much finer.(view picture #3 & 4)

Another point is the tip it is a totaly open tip (view picture #5) for you guys painting with acrylics this is a good thing has it allows you to pick uff dried paint from the needle has you are going. The down side of this is that the needle is exposed hence easier to snag in on something.

Trying it out
Installing the conversion set is extremely easy, pull out the needle, unscrew the nozzle swap out the tip place the new regulator and screw in the nozzle. A whooping 30secs !

If your used to your Patriot you will discover that the learning curve for using it with this kit really short. The only difference I made was to thin my paint a little more and that was it. Now the “F 0.5mm” is very precise, but this is even better! I pre-shaded a Hasegawa Ki-84 with some Humbrol matt aluminum metal coat and the result is great making very fine lines following the kit panel lines was very easy. (view large picture below).

Another quick test I did is to re-spray the black around the cockpit of a 1/48 F-4 and barely got any overspray in the installed pit. Now that’s useful!

I’m sure that using it more often will get me even better and more precise has you can spay hair lines with little to no overspray.

In Conclusion
This conversion is highly recommended. For the price, you really get a super precision airbrush for those little occasional jobs that really benefit from the gain in accuracy.

I want to thank Ken from
Badger Airbrush for supplying this review sample.
