Douglas Conrady has been very busy building and creating his 1/72 XB-41 - Destroyer Escort.  Douglas tell the fascinating story of this "one off" prototype and what was involved to build this heavily armored escort.  This was not a simple project and I'm amazed at the effort involved to pull it all together....an effort that included rare Paragon parts, as well as parts from Quickboost and even B-17 part from a kind member on the ARC forums.

Dragan Cvetic took this old kit and rescribed it and converted it to a FT-7 to create his 1/72 Condor FT-7.  Dragan has a big talent for weathering as you will see on the desert camo on this Iranian jet.

Gerd Wilcken is here with something very tiny and very cool today.  This is his 1/144 Minicraft B-26 Marauder wearing the markings for the famous bobmber Flak Bait and a full weathering job which looks outstanding on this tiny tiny model.  The airfield accessories came from Brengun.

Brazil Republic Day

Gerald Asher has done a huge amount of work kitbashing and scratchbuilding his 1/48 Consolidated B-32 Dominator.  This project involved a few different kits and aftermarket parts and a large amount of head scratching and pondering for Gerald to pull it all together into the award winning model you will see in his photos.  It's a very cool project and I love the look of the finished model.

Sohaib Talal has added a resin cockpit set and resin air scoops to make this amazing 1/48 Academy MiG-21MF.  Sohaib added various weapons and finished his well weathered Syrian jet in desert camo using decals from 2 different companies.  Stunning work Sohaib.

Artur Oslizlo is here with a very interesting looking aircraft.  This is his 1/48 Mirage Hobby Lublin R-XIII D in Polish Air Force markings complete with a very subtle shading and weathering job.  Artur is a master with an air brush and this little fighter is a treat to see.

Andrea Pomettini has taken the classic 1/72 ESCI F4-E Phantom II and added some critical detail to turn it into a stunning Vietnam War era Phantom.  Almost every area of this model has been improved with added detail and I know you will be very impressed when you read what was done and see the photos of this SEA beauty.

Olivier Barles added brake lines and other detail to his big 1/32 Hobby Boss Iliouchine Il-2m Stormovik.  But the real beauty of Olivier's tank buster is the weathering job which includes chipped paint and mud which shows the difficult conditions these aircraft had to operate in.

Orlando Sucre Rosales joins us from Caracas, Venezuela with his tiny and wonderfully detailed 1/72 Italeri Hughes 500M.  Orlando spent much time researching the smaller details to make his model as accurate helicopter for the Spanish navy and he explains all these changes in his article and also explains some of the areas to be careful of when building this kit..

My adventure to the Philippines is over.  I am looking forward to catching up on ARC and a 2 week backlog of e-mails.

The ARC Submissions e-mail inbox was full and I have got that problem sorted so please resume sending in your articles.  It's good to be home.

Jens Gerber joins us from Germany with his beautifully done 1/48 Tamiya Focke Wulf FW190 A4 wearing very interesting markings.  The checkerboard on the nose is quite the pleasant sight to see on a Fw 190.  Jens is a master with an airbrush as you will see in his photos.

José C. N. Motta Jr.  joins us today with his first article on ARC and his first model since returning to the hobby.  José has done a most amazing job on his 1/48 Airfix Sea Harrier FA.2 which uses a combination of aftermarket sets and a large amount of highly skilled scratchbuilding.  Sit back and enjoy...this one is a BEAUTY!!!  Welcome to ARC José.

Shawn "phantom" Weiler did quite a bit of fine work to create his very accurate looking Canadian 1/48 Kinetic Tracker complete with folded wings.  Shawn's tracker is an amazing looking model with all the wonderful detail and complicated folded wings that make everything look perfect.  I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the photos of this one.

Poland Independence Day

Remembrance Day / Veterans Day

Private message to A.....check your e-mail

No product articles today...out of respect for Veterans Day / Remembrance Day....lest we forget.

Frederick Smith has built and finished the 1/72 Hasegawa A-10A Thunderbolt II to a very high standard.  The photos look like a 1/32 super detailed model, but this is in fact an out of the box build in 1/72.  Very impressive indeed and in the "Fly Tigers" markings no less.

José Alvarez is here with one of the coolest models I've seen on ARC.  This is his 1/122 Revell Super Connie Lockheed EC-121T Warning Star which required quite a bit of custom work to turn a passenger air liner into this rare radar equipped military aircraft.  José did quite a bit of custom work and ended up with a breath taking model that is a joy to see from any angle.

Steve Negley went the extra mile to create his 1/48 Revell Monogram/ Koster Conversion McDonnell Douglas RF-101C Voodoo.  Steve completed the conversion with very little grief and then used a combination of decals and custom painted markings to create his eye popping single seater Voodoo.  I love the look of this finished model.

No joke or funny picture today out of respect for the Nov 11.

Greece Hellenic Air Force Day

Typhoon Yolanda is currently at it's peak.......I'm not sure what the wind speed is......but it's much higher than howling winds.  I'm hunkered down with 4 local friends keeping safe as we eat home cooked garlic prawns and rice for lunch and tonight we'll have beef cooked in a  Filipino way with a birthday cake to celebrate the birthday of one of the people in our group.  All is well and everyone's extended family in our group safe and sound.  Everyone has been busy texting to make sure loved ones found safe shelter.  It's almost sunset here with the storm still raging and we'll sit tight until first light before we venture outside, but early reports are that their bamboo houses with concrete corner pillars have survived this super typhoon.  The power grid was shut down as soon as the winds reached a certain speed and I suspect it will be days before repairs are done and the power is back.  I will be attempting to make my scheduled flight out....but it is uncertain if the road is clear or if the boats will be up and running early enough to get to the airport on time.....but I will try.

Stephan Mühlberger has gone the extra mile detailing his 1/32 Academy CF-188B.  Stephan used a variety of aftermarket sets to detail his Canadian 2 seat Hornet trainer but it was his skill at detailing and painting and weathering that pulled this whole project together into a masterpiece.

Ermanno Bonafin joins us from Italy with  a very famous Avenger.  This is the 1/48 Italeri Grumman TBM-1C with all the right mix of resin and photo etch goodies to add all the right detail, but it is the flawless paint job that brings this bomber to life.

S K Loh has been busy doing detailing to his micro 1/144 Academy MIG-23ML Conversion.  This particular MiG-23 is the Syrian jet that defected to Israel and S K did plenty of modifications to make his model much more accurate.  I love the markings for Syria and Israel.

Here's a product article for the 1/32 F-4J Phantom II interior photo etch detail set from Eduard Model Accessories.

Well the typhoon Yolanda has yet to show itself....it's a tiny bit windy here, but nothing worthy of concern.  This place should be in full storm mode in about 12 hours (2pm eastern US time) until then it's a waiting game.  I'm quite confident we'll be very safe in this concrete hotel room, but it does go against all common sense (from a North American point of view) to ride through a Cat 5 typhoon (hurricane).  I am beginning to hear thunder in the distance, which I'm assuming might be the approaching typhoon.

Artur Oslizlo has done an exceptionally fine job super detailing his 1/48 Kinetic EA-6B Prowler.  Artur added an Aires cockpit, Wolfpack electronic bays and finished it all off with a weathering job befitting a USN jet. Beautiful work Artur.

Yang Yu-Pei has been very busy super detailing his 1/32 Hasegawa Bf-109G.  Yu-Pei used a resin cockpit set as well as other aftermarket items and scratchbuilt details before giving this 109 a flawlessly weathered camo paint job.  Bf-109's don't get much better than this.

Victor De Jesus joins us with his very attractive looking 1/32 Trumpeter MiG-15 bis.  Victor built his MiG-15 in the marking for a Russian Ace during the Korean War.  Victor tells the war history of this Ace as well as his one dog fight with a very formidable American Ace. It's a thoroughly enjoy able article i'm sure you will enjoy.

Wednesday,   Nov 6  2013
I'm currently finishing a 2 week trip to the Philippines and as luck would have it....my location appears in the direct path of  a Category 4 Typhoon.  My fight home on Friday is now delayed as the storm will be at it's peak then and all flights have been cancelled for 2 days.  There is a very good chance the eye of the storm will be going over my location.  I am in a concrete hotel room that should give me excessive protection.  I will be going out at first light to offer shelter in my hotel room to my local friends to protect them from the worst of the storm as I know their modest home will not be safe during this storm.  Once the storm hits, the power grid locally will be badly damaged which could make daily updates impossible until I can arrange a flight home.  I will do my best to keep the daily updates happening.

Sean Langley went to great lengths to build and detail his exceptionally fine 1/48 Monogram B-26B Marauder.  Sean battled fit issues during the building process and went the extra miles adding scratchbuilt detail all through his Marauder.  Beautiful job Sean....this one is stgunning.

Shawn "phantom" Weiler is here to make the Tomcat fans happy with his 1/48 Hasegawa Tomcat VF-84.  Shawn used some aftermarket goodies and Fightertown decals to finish his Jolly Rogers F-14 to a very high level of finish..

J.J.Chen  combined 2 kits to create his WW2 era 1/48 Piper Cub.  JJ did plenty of work to create to Cub along with the very well done display base with grass made from sawdust.  The addition of D-Day stripes makes this one very attractive Cub.

 Guy Fawkes Day

Shalom Hen gets things started today with his beautifully done 1/48 Italeri F-86E Sabre.  Shalom chose what-if markings for an Israeli Sabre in a period correct camo and I must say I completely enjoyed seeing the photos of this one.

Olivier Barles Is here with his 1/32 Hasegawa Focke-Wulf 190 A-6 painted in one of most interesting camo schemes I've seen on a 190.  This is a special camo scheme from the summer of '43 at the battle of Kursk and it reminds me of some of the unique camo schemes worn by German armour units during WW2.

Fred Shammas graces ARC today with photos of his 1/48 F-4M Phantom II diorama.  This is a Royal Navy Phantom II complete with drop tanks and posed in one of Fred's very realistic diorama settings.

Philippines - All Souls Day

Algeria - The Revolution Day of 1st November

Polly Singh is here in style with his Indian Air Force 1/72 Novo Hawker Hunter.  This was a very inexpensive kit that Polly transformed into quite the gem in the markings for a No 27 sqn "The Flaming arrows" jet in 1985.  Polly has a solid talent for doing amazing things with not so amazing model kits.

Gerd Wilcken joins us today with his beautifully done and very tiny 1/144 Revell Goodyear FG-1D.  This is one of the very rare Goodyear Corsairs and Gerd chose to build his as a battle veteran Corsair that participated in the Foot ball War back in '69.  Gerd captured the look of this Corsair perfectly with the bright markings and worn camo.  Very nicely done Gerd.

Fred Shammas graces the ARC homepage today with photos of his 1/48 Su-24 diorama.  Fred is a master at realism in his model photography and his photos show this very well.....he will be missed by many of us.
